Golden Sands Resort by Shangri-la is located approximately 45 minutes from Penang International Airport and 18 miles from Snake Temple. Within 10 miles of the hotel are Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, Wat Chayamangkalaram, Fort Cornwallis, Gurney Drive, Kapitan Kling, Khoo Kongsi, Kek Lok Si Temple, and Komtar Shopping Center.

Hotel amenities include watersports (canoeing, windsurfing, speed boating, etc), jungle trekking, pools, kids' club, archery, fitness center, massage treatments, beauty salon, and multi-purpose sports courts. For dining, the hotel houses Garden Cafe, Sigi's by the Sea, Peppino, Sunset Lounge (with live music), and Kuda Laut (cocktails and snacks in the poolside garden). The hotel also offers room service (24 hours), airport transfers, babysitting, complimentary shoe shine, a drugstore/mini-market, a florist, and a shopping arcade.

All rooms come with Free Broadband Internet access, voicemail, satellite/cable TV, in-house movie channels, international direct-dial telephones, electronic safes, minibars, coffee/tea facilities, and executive writing desks. Rates are based on double occupancy. Charges for extra adults may apply and will be due directly to the hotel. Hotel is currently undergoing a redevelopment program/refurbishment in their guest room, meeting rooms and lobby area which all are located in the main building. Gardens and pool area will remain unaffected. The level of noise disturbance will be at an absolute minimum. Precautions have been taken to minimize the noise. A senior executive member of staff will be available 24 hours per day should any noise related complaints occur.
