The fact that Oregon inspired the largest voluntary land migration in recorded history is not without good reason. The fertile and verdant Willamette Valley truly was the promised land for the thousands of pioneers who braved the hardships of the Oregon Trail. Portland, Oregon's largest city, boasts an amazing array of attractions. these include a lively downtown, dozens of greenspaces and urban parks, a world-class transportation system, cast iron and terra cotta architecture, a nationally acclaimed art museum, the largest new-and-used bookstore in the world, and a vibrant culinary community.
Oregons coastline comprises 400 miles of beaches and dunes which are all open to the public. Central Oregon features geologic marvels such as the Newberry National Volcanic Monument and Smith Rock State Park. In the winter months, snowsports dominate the recreational activities on Mount Bachelor, but during the rest of the year visitors can indulge in fly-fishing, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and playing on some top class golf courses.
