On the original road into West Bay, the inn was once called 'The Neptune', built in 1739, facing the East Cliff beach and the sea. After Great Western railways came to Bridport Harbour in 1884, the area was renamed West Bay to attract Victorian holidaymakers, and draw attention to the beautiful surroundings and beaches, and the name was changed accordingly. Our beers are local, coming from Palmers Brewery in Bridport, just over a mile away. Copper Ale, IPA, and Palmers 200, an award winning ale, or, in the winter, Tally Ho!, strong and dark, are available on hand pump, Lagers and cider are available from kegs.We have two gardens, and children and dogs are welcome. The inn has tourist board approved 3 star accommodation, with three large double en-suite rooms, one of them being a family room too. With such an old building it would not be surprising to find it haunted, but there are no recorded stories. Some things just go unexplained….We enjoy serving seafood, and almost everything is sourced locally and carefully prepared to excite your taste buds by our four chefs – Head Chef Chris Smith, ably assisted by Phil White, and Stephanie Paynter. Our son, Michael, continues as Consultant Chef while being Head Chef of the Hix Oyster and Fish House in Lyme Regis. The inn has received many favourable reviews, and is mentioned in The AA Pub Guide, The Good Pub Guide 2009, and on mobilefoodguide.com.We believe you will enjoy your visit to The West Bay whatever the time of year or the weather. Hotel Rating: VisitBritain 3 Stars
