Located on the ski runs, nearby the city centre it is the ideal ski resort. Guests can enjoy their time at one of the most beautiful chalet of Alpes d?Huez. Following a superb renovation completed in 2003 and 2004 Les Grandes Rousses is among the most beautiful buildings of Alpe dHuez, perfectly integrated into its mountain universe.

The hotel stands on three floors, most rooms and the fitness area benefit from fantastic views of the ski area or across the Romanche valley and the Massif de lOisans and its mythical summits, Meije , Barre des Ecrins, Muzelle, Pelvoux some of which exceed 4000 metres.

Rooms vary from singles to the spacious family suite for six people, they are quiet and mostly with a balcony equipped with deckchairs. In most rooms bathrooms have separate toilets. All the rooms are equipped with a satellite TV and a direct dial phone.

The surroundings are perfect for ski lovers, while the hotel offers as well an outdoor heated swimming pool. Guests should note there is a tourist tax per adult which is payable locally.
Location
The hotel is ideally situated in the district of Cognet, 100m from the Avenue des Jeux and its many shops; Sports Wear, fashion, equipment rental, ski and surf. The departure of the lifts is less than 30 metres from the hotel. A track allows the return to the hotel on skis.
Ski Facts
The Southern Alps covers a huge area, stretching from the Mercantour in the Alpes Maritimes to the Bauges in Isère. It is difficult to summarise the skiing in this vast area, which itself is divided into different ski regions. However one of the main differences between skiing in the Northern Alps and the Southern Alps is sunshine! There are some epic runs, like the Sarenne in Alpe d?Huez, which is the longest run in Europe at over 17kms (Starts black and finishes green). Also the chance to ski the ?68 Olympic downhill runs at Chamrousse, or follow in the ski steps of Luc Alphand in Serre Chevalier. All these areas offer fantastic off-piste opportunities and a wide variety of pistes from beginner to expert.

Note none of these resorts are linked or form a single ski area, but many are within driving distance. There is even a helicopter ride from Alp d?Huez to the top of the Meije in Les Deux Alpes (You can ski a day in either resort on the local pass).
