Ski Facts The Southern Alps covers a huge area, stretching from the Mercantour in the Alpes Maritimes to the Bauges in Isère. It is difficult to summarise the skiing in this vast area, which itself is divided into different ski regions. However one of the main differences between skiing in the Northern Alps and the Southern Alps is sunshine! There are some epic runs, like the Sarenne in Alpe d?Huez, which is the longest run in Europe at over 17kms (Starts black and finishes green). Also the chance to ski the ?68 Olympic downhill runs at Chamrousse, or follow in the ski steps of Luc Alphand in Serre Chevalier.
