Ski Facts The Maurienne has been overlooked by UK skiers in the past, but for the past 2 or 3 years, following various developments, the integral connection of the Sybelles ski area, the joining Valfrejus, La Norma and Aussois to create the new ValNorSois area (bus-linking), and regular investment in snow cannons and lift infrastructure, means that this valley that leads into Italy, now poses a serious threat to the established resorts of the Tarentaise. Although there is no single lift pass covering all resorts in the valley (There is a 5 day ticket now which can be used in any of the 20 resorts of the Maurienne!), many of the resorts offer at least one day skiing in a neighbouring resort, and many offer a day in Orelle with it?s high speed link into Val Thorens and the 3 Valleys. Valfréjus is the largest of the 3 resorts making up the ValNorSois area, and offers a great range for all levels. Valloire/Valmeinier has over 150 km of slopes between 1 430 and 2 600 meters high, with excellent conditions. 70% of the ski area is located above 2 000 m high, with 1 170 m of vertical drop. 33 skilifts and 85 slopes of every level and a capacity of more than 42 000 skiers / hour. Optimum snow cover from December to April thanks to more than 400 snow-cannons. 3 slalom slopes and two competition slopes along with Freestyle areas and 10 picnic areas means plenty of variety and somewhere to have a cheap lunch! New this year was the creation of an igloo village, and the opening up of some night time ski activities. (Easyparks) amusing areas for everyone to learn skiing and snowboarding.
