Ski Facts Trentino table-lands of the Adige Valley, in the south-eastern part of the valley, are an excellent winter skiing resort, both for the quality of their lifts and for the short distance from some more well-known cities of the area, such as Trento and Rovereto. Among Lavarone, Folgaria and Luserna, the carousel of tracks of the Skitour dei Forti, winds for 60 km of tracks, 31 lifts (among which there are 6 four-seat chairlifts) and a programmed snow system which serves 52 km of tracks. Resort Information Situated at an altitude of 1550 metres in the wonderful hollow between the Brenta Dolomites and the glaciers of Adamello and Presanella, Madonna di Campiglio became a renown tourist area in the second half of the last century. Madonna di Campiglio was turned into a refined holiday area for nobles and the rich Austrian and Central Europe upper middle-class. In 1889 and 1894 Princess Sissi and the Emperor Francesco Giuseppe were its guests. In 1947 the Società Funivie Madonna di Campiglio (Cablecar Company) was founded and aimed at enhancing the skiing in this area. In 1948 the first ski lift, a chair-lift linking Madonna di Campiglio to Spinale, was opened; in the 50s the cablecar 5 Laghi and other skilifts were built.
