Accommodation and Facilities The spacious Hotel Sonnschein features a total of 142 rooms, all furnished in modern Tyrolean style. The twin rooms can accommodate up to three persons and feature bath or shower, toilet, hairdryer, bathrobes, telephone, radio, satellite television, fridge, kettle and safe. The larger, superior rooms have the same facilities and can sleep up to four persons. All rooms are non-smoking but do feature a balcony. The friendly public areas of the Hotel Sonnschein include reception with small lounge and fire place, spacious lounge bar, several dining areas, Wintergarten seminar room and a sun terrace. There is also an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam-bath, whirlpool, solarium, billiards, darts, outdoor solar heated swimming pool, garden and sun bathing lawn with deck chairs, outdoor tennis court, giant garden chess and mini-golf course. An extensive cold buffet breakfast is included, and guests staying on half-board will enjoy four course evening meals, with a choice of main course and daily salad buffet. Resort Information & Things to Do The enchanting high valley of Wildschönau lies between the Kitzbühel and Ziller Valley Alps and is home to four traditional, picturesque villages: Niederau, Oberau, Auffach and Thierbach. They are all delightfully unspoilt and due to their central location in Tyrol, offer a perfect base for exploring the local area and also further a field. Activities available locally include: Walking and Hiking: Niederau and the Wildschönau Valley is a walker?s paradise. The 300 kilometres of marked trails will lead you over lush meadows, through pine forests and past century old mountain farms to spectacular peaks. Two gondola lifts in the valley operate in summer, making the higher paths and magnificent Alpine scenery easily accessible. Cyling and Mountain Biking: A range of less energetic cycle paths are to be found in the valley. Experienced mountain bikers will enjoy the more challenging higher routes. Nordic Walking: Wildschönau has a fabulous Nordic Fitness Sports Park with 7 trails from 2 to 10 kilometres long. The Wildschönau Outdoor Pool Centre is situated between Niederau and the next village of Oberau. The complex has several pools (including one for children), water slide, beach volleyball court, large sunbathing lawn, children?s playground and restaurant with sun terrace. Horse riding, tennis and mini-golf are also available. A great range of day excursions to nearby places of interest may be booked locally. Destinations include Grossglockner (Austria?s highest mountain), Krimml Waterfalls (Europe?s highest waterfall), historical Salzburg, the Tyrolean provincial capital of Innsbruck, famous salt mines, scenic lakes, impressive castles and palaces. Niederau offers a small range of resort amenities including a supermarket, a sport shops, post office and bank. The local bus service to neighbouring villages and also to the nearby town of Wörgl operates regularly, from where the main line train service is available. The nightlife in Niederau is relatively quiet and very traditional with, for example, regular brass band concerts, harp recitals and Tyrolean folklore evenings.
