Set on the side of a cliff, San Michele is a traditional family run hotel surrounded by attractive gardens and offering breathtaking views of the island, the bay of Naples, the Sorrento peninsula and the Amalfi coast. Close to the centre of Anacapri and to the chairlift that will transport you to the highest point of the island on Monte Solaro, it is also only a short walk from Axel Munthe?s famous Villa San Michele. Constructed in neo-classical style in the 1870?s, the hotel opened in 1904 under the name of ?Hotel Molaro? and soon became famous for being frequented by famous artists, writers and noble families. The elegant lounges furnished in the style of Louis XVI provide a welcoming atmosphere that takes one back to the time when the queen of Sweden, the Kaiser and other friends of doctor Axel Munthe frequently visited the hotel.
Accommodation
Each of the hotel?s 60 rooms have a shower, air conditioned (from 01.05 to 31.10), satellite colour TV, telephone, mini-bar, hair dryer, safe and terrace or balcony with a sea view or a mountain view dominated by the famous ?Barbarossa? Castle dating back 1000 years. At 300 metres above sea level, the sun terraces offer exclusive views, where you are suspended between the sky and the sea. The rooms have a balcony, terrace or french balcony.
Food & Beverage
The hotel has a spacious restaurant with wonderful panoramic views over the Gulf of Naples. The Coppola family who manage the hotel offer menus with typical regional food and other special Capri specialities to satisfy all tastes. Poolside there is a snack bar where you can enjoy typical local snacks and drinks.
Sports & Leisure
The Hotel San Michele has the largest and sunniest swimming pool on the island, open from 01/05 - 30/09. A peaceful setting where you can relax from sunrise to sunset, the swimming pool is surrounded by trees, plants and lawns for sunbeds and deckchairs (with extra charge). There are tennis courts nearby at the ?Capri Sporting Club? with special prices for hotel guests. Furthermore, on 14/08 the hotel provides a Gala Dinner for Ferragosto.
Useful Information on Distances
Guests can reach the Naples harbor (6km from the airport) and then to get to Capri by ferry or hydrofoil.
