One of London's oldest purpose-built hotels, it is ideal for all types of travellers, the lobby being of particular interest. (0309/RPL).
The facade of the hotel is a good example of ornate red brick Victorian renaissance architecture.
On average the rooms are medium-sized and are in excellent condition, as most of them have been recently renovated. The decoration is a mixture of contemporary and traditional English. The bathrooms are in good condition too.
Recently renovated, the main restaurant is a fabulous feature of the hotel being a large airy room with a wealth of period features. There is also a large bar which has a very traditional 'club' atmosphere.
The medium-sized lobby area with its main marbled staircase, ornate coved ceiling and gold detailing creates an air of historical elegance and is a great focal point of the hotel. The reception area, in complete contrast, is bright and modern.
The hotel is situated in the heart of Bloomsbury, opposite Russell Square underground station with its excellent connections to all parts of London. It is within walking distance of the British Museum, and many of London's top theatres. It is also close to Covent Garden and Oxford Street.
