The pousada acquired its name from a young man by the name of Barao Forrester (1809-1862), who also plays an important part in the history of port. He was a cartographer and artist and was a purist in his desire to keep port as a wine unfortified by brandy. In the Pousada there is a drawing room, a central dining room with mirrored doors, a card room on the lower garden level as well as a bar with a wonderful collection of port. 08/08 mp.

Pastel colours cover the walls giving the rooms a peaceful feeling.
The food and service is excellent.Specialties are bacalhau and pickled peixinhnos. Alijo, the town, produces a good and fruity moscatel wine which is not widely known and is most fervently recommended.

Located in the old village of Alijó, heart of the Douro Wine Region among the famous "quintas", small estates where the Port Wine vineyards grow in terraces. It enjoys a pleasant view of the countryside and vineyards.
