The hotel Pousada de Palmela is part of the medieval castle, originally built as a Moorish fortress, and later the headquarters and convent of the Order of Santiago. The reconstruction of the buildings have preserved the dignity expected by the monks of its former use. The cloisters remain together with the surrounding gallery and are now used as a quiet place for guests to sit and read.
