Attractions: - Area Attractions: SOKOLSKI MONASTERY An interesting landmark in the area surrounding Gabrovo is Sokolski monastery -The Assumption a remarkable monument of the Revival architecture. You can reach it by bus or car /it is 12 kilometers south-east of Gabrovo/ or along the hiking route from Etura along the purpose-marked paths for about an hour and a half /4 kilometers/. The monastery was founded in 1833. During the following years it extended its activities. In that way the ecclesiastical center turned into an educational one and during the Russian-Turkish war into a military hospital. The school has sheltered Vasil Levski, Neofit Bozveli /he was a teacher here/, revolutionists of Captain Dyado Nikola. Of great interest in the monastery is its museum exposition, the ancient icons, made by Zachary Zograf and the stone fountain with the falcons work of master Usta Kolyo Ficheto...............20 км ETURA Etura is the only open-air ethnographic museum in Bulgaria. It is located in the quarter of the same name in the town of Gabrovo on the north flanks of the Stara Planina Mountains. The complex is built through the restoration of existing ancient objects, re-creating of buildings on the models from the past and introduction of original outfits. The craftsmen display live in their tiny shops traditional cooking, along with manufacturing of ceramic articles and products from the traditional Bulgarian artistic crafts - cutlery, braiding. The originality and the distinctive artistry of the people of Gabrovo are shown in an amusing and intriguing way. The original architecture and folklore, and national costumes of Gabrovo region are preserved very well. There are also many old-time fountains, ancient house-museums, and taverns......................18 км DRYANOVO MONASTERY Dryanovo monastery is located about 4 kilometers to the south-west of Dryanovo. Round it the Dryanovo River meanders picturesquely. The natural landmark Bacho Kiro cave is nearby. The monastery was established in the beginning of the 12th century in Tsarkovishte countryside. In its present-day localation the monastery has existed since 1845. It consists of two churches the smaller one, St. Archangel Michael, dates from the same year.
