Ivesley is a four star rated 18th century country house and equestrian centre set in 220 acres of magnificent farmland and countryside. It was originally a hunting lodge and has an avenue of beech trees dating from the 1550s, planted to mark the end of the Black Death of 1348. It is well placed for the rider and non-rider alike. Only seven miles from the medieval Durham City, with its magnificent cathedral, castle and university, it is an ideal base for touring the area. Ivesley has direct access to miles of hacking and bridleways through woodland and moorland, where guests can enjoy peaceful and scenic surroundings. The area is ideal for mountain biking and walking being on the edge of the North Pennine Moors. We aim to treat our guests as house guests. There is a large drawing room with TV and a large dining room. Most bedrooms have private facilities. All rooms have been decorated and furnished to a very high standard and are centrally heated. We serve excellent food and wine and are fully licensed, with a good wine cellar. Hotel Rating: VisitBritain 4 Stars
