This is a good 4-star property in the heart of the city. Parts of the property are in need of renovation, but this is nevertheless a very popular hotel. (TM 11/06).
This is a late Victorian building which was originally a department store; the exterior is very elegant.
The bedrooms are all medium to large in size. The new rooms are of high quality, with deep sumptuous colours in three separate designs that combine the traditional feel associated with the hotel. The rooms also have state-of-the-art facilities. Some rooms are a little dark and dated, but all are generally in good condition.
The new restaurant is open plan and very modern, serving a brasserie-style menu. It is less formal than before, and very stylish.
The reception desk on the ground floor makes for an impressive welcome. The main lobby and bar area are on the 1st floor, accessible via a sweeping staircase.
This hotel is situated opposite Waverly station on North Bridge, on a corner of the Royal Mile. This is an outstanding central location.
